A JOURNEY!!!

The weekend before MLK day and the eve of the inauguration, two friends and I set out on a nature adventure for fun, dedication, and a challenge.  Our destination...Santa Cruz Island! Off the coast of Ventura and the largest of the Channel Islands, Santa Cruz Island is like no other.  There are over 900 species of wildlife and flora, along with certain species that are endemic to the island like the Island Scrub Jay. The island is said to look exactly how California did nearly 2,000 years ago! They have successfully re-introduced the Bald Eagle, which is also native to the island.

I highly recommend either doing a simple camping trip out there or an intense backpacking/camping adventure like the one we partook in. It was quite the test of will, wit, and determination. Heavy packs (have to bring your own water and everything else you will need), steep hikes, and a mountain to climb. We laughed, we collapsed from exhaustion, we thought we couldn't do it, we nearly cried, but it was well worth it. One of the best experiences of my life and that of my friends. No adventure would be complete without some photo documentation! Here are some flicks and a map of our 16 mile journey. It was a super bright the whole time so I had some crazy reflection off my lense or the back of the camera that caused a blown out bar to run through some photos. Anyways...peep it!!!
